Our Manufacturing Process

The making of a Koss Design piece

Made slowly. Made by hand. Made to last.

No assembly lines. No plastic beads. No thousands of identical copies. Every Koss Design piece begins with genuine MIYUKI glass from Japan and ends in human hands - threaded bead by bead, knotted three times, and checked before it ever reaches you.

MIYUKI glass beads

I - THE GLASS

It all starts with the right bead

Countless imitations flood the internet today - many of them plastic, not glass, and they lose their shine within weeks.

It took us a long time to find the right source. Today, every bead we use is authentic, certified MIYUKI glass, made in Japan by a house that has been perfecting glass beads since 1935.

II - JAPAN, EVERY YEAR

A direct relationship with MIYUKI

We don't buy our beads from anonymous wholesalers. Every year, we travel to Japan to meet our MIYUKI partners in person.

This photo was taken during our annual visit to the MIYUKI factory near Hiroshima, alongside their leadership team. It is where the glass in your bracelet was born.

Selecting MIYUKI bead colours

III - THE SELECTION

Colour by colour, by eye

Every design begins with a palette. We select each bead colour by hand to create combinations you won't find anywhere else - balanced, refined and made to be stacked.

Some combinations are produced only once. When a colour is gone, it's gone for the season.

Assembling a flat bead bracelet by hand

IV - THE SHAPE

Making a square bead sit perfectly round

MIYUKI's flat beads have a distinctive square shape. That is what makes them so modern - and so demanding to work with.

Turning dozens of square beads into a bracelet that sits perfectly round on your wrist takes real expertise. It is a skill that takes years to master - and one that cannot be rushed.

Threading beads by hand with a needle

V - THREADED BY HAND

Bead by bead, with a needle

Once a design is finalised by our designers, each bead is threaded by hand with a needle onto premium Korean elastic.

No machines. No shortcuts. Just patience, precision, and hands that know exactly what they are doing.

Finishing a Koss Design bracelet

VI - THE FINISHING TOUCH

Three knots you will never see

Every bracelet is secured with a triple knot, then the knot is carefully hidden beneath the beads for a clean, seamless finish.

Each piece is then checked by hand before it is placed in our signature satin pouch and sent to you.
